Wash of warm light from the single small incandescent refrigerator light bulb, light reflected brightly from the white interior of the fridge.  Soft and natural but fuzzy and out of focus.

Short focal length, fast flash.  Bright concentrated light, crisp detail, but harsh and unnatural feeling.

The flash illuminates every particle of dust and only one facet of the object.  The flash seems harsh on my camera, and it often leaves a shadow from my telescoped lens.  The non-flash picture is so soft and has a nice ambience.  I try to take low-light non-flash photos with with the remote control.
